Before he bought all of his offensive linemen a small fortune in Amazon stock, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson purchased an equally valuable present for his wife, Ciara.
According to karencivil.com, Wilson bought Ciara’s “masters” from all of her old record labels and gifted them to his wife. As far as industry benefits go, owning the rights to your music is among the very best perks you can have. The timing couldn’t be better as Ciara announced the creation of her own record label, Beauty Marks Entertainment, at the 2019 Makers Conference.
In an exclusive interview with Billboard at the conference, Ciara talked about the importance of having her masters in sole possession. The move enables her to “really build things to where it can last for a really long time and I can really reap the full benefits of my labor,” she said.
Later she adds, “I’ve been in systems and the way the deals are typically structured for us artists, we don’t really get to reap the full financial benefits of our labor. I love what I do. I wake up every day excited to do what I do, even during the toughest times. But at the same time, it’s like, let’s make economic sense of it all as well.”
In the rest of the interview she also talks about now having the creative freedom to release music when she wants and allowing her fans to help guide the success of Beauty Marks Entertainment. You can read it here.
